Sunday’s Premier League tips which features derby action from the North-West and the North East.
Sunderland v Newcastle
Newcastle enjoyed a real boost to their morale with their 6-2 home win over Norwich, but they remain terrible away from St James’ Park – they’ve lost nine of their last ten league away games. You only need go back to April, when Jermain Defoe’s strike separated these sides, to remind yourself that Sunderland’s players can get up for this fixture and Newcastle are not a side to trust on the road. Tip: Sunderland at 6/4.
Man United v Man City
Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is eyeing up a title tilt and his players can send out a message by beating Manchester City at Old Trafford. City looked short in attack in midweek and United look secure at the back and that may be decisive in this heavyweight derby contest. Tip: Man United at 6/4
Bournemouth v Tottenham
As the season unfolds, Callum Wilson’s injury could prove to be a crucial moment in Bournemouth’s chances of survival. Wilson’s lengthy absence leaves the Cherries shorn of a focal point in attack, which may be costly against a Tottenham side who look to be slowly finding their form. Tip: Tottenham at 6/5
Liverpool v Southampton
Jurgen Klopp’s first league home game and he couldn’t have asked for tougher opponents in Southampton. Klopp has spoken in the past week about it taking time for players to adjust to his new style and he’s made some notable improvements especially with moving Can into midfield. However the time needed and his lack of striker options is the concern at the moment for Liverpool fans. Southampton won at Chelsea a few weeks back and they have a passing game which makes them tough, unbeaten in their last four league away matches. Tip: Southampton at 11/4
