Our Golf Tipster has a look at the US Masters Top Debutant market and sees Harris English as having the near perfect game for the course.
This looks as strong and as deep a Masters line up as there has ever been which includes easily the strongest group of debutants (24 in total) to ever take their first drive Magnolia Lane for competitive action.
Jordan Spieth, Jimmy Walker, Patrick Reed, Harris English and Victor Dubuisson are just some of the names who will be making their first appearances at Augusta. Whether any of these 24 can break the run of 35 years since Fuzzy Zoeller on his debut in 1979 is questionable, as this is a course where experience is vital and the average appearances of a Masters’ winner is six.
Harris English very much appeals this week as a player that could really take to this venue. He was born in Georgia and is a Georgia Bulldog alumni so will have some experience of playing this venue at collegiate level. He is also an outstanding ball striker that ranks 22nd in Driving Distance this year and 1st in GIR. He is also 3rd in Par 4 Scoring Average and 4th in Par 5 Scoring Average, while he is an excellent 24th in Proximity to the Hole and 8th in Bogey Avoidance.
Everything about the English game suggests that he should thrive at this venue, even if his shot shape is not ideal. He is a dual winner on the PGA Tour and loves the tough technical courses. He has not contended since finishing 4th in the Sony Open in January, but has still posted a 9th place finish in Phoenix, 10th at Riviera, 16th in the WGC Cadillac and 14th in his last event at Bay Hill.
At odds of 15/2, English is our each –way selection to be the Top Debutant with Stan James paying 1/5 the odds for the the first four in the market. We have also included English at 66/1 as a selection in the Outright market.
1 pt each-way Harris English – Top Debutant at 15/2 with Stan James (4 places)
