Ray Flanagan with two against the field in the USPGA Golf tournament.
Take Day and Fowler in USPGA,
Just for the craic, I have decided to put up two picks for the season’s final Golf Major, The USPGA Championship at Whistling Straits.
Jason Day- The intense and driven Australian man has been playing very well on season all the more commendable given his difficulties suffering from vertigo. A lesser player would have capitulated but Day’s toughness and resilience has still seen him contend in virtually every tournament on the final Sunday. This was evident none more so than at the US Open where Day went very close to winning despite being quite ill throughout the tournament. At the British Open last month, he was the most consistent overall player but was just lacking the bit of extra sparkle to find some birdies on the closing two days.
He is an intense character who sometimes puts too much pressure on himself to win which can often hamper his chance. No one will be more focused or determined however, and I find it hard to envisage him not in contention come Sunday evening. He should make the top seven operated by Sky Bet and he might gain a richly deserved first Major.
Rickie Fowler is another strong talent awaiting his first major. He has been a model of consistency in Majors making the top five in all the big four events last season. This year has not been quite as good, but he is coming into form at the right time and is fancied to put in a good showing.
