Outright -Justin Rose
Justin Rose has posted a number of good performances at Augusta and may be ready to finally win his first green jacket having narrowly missed out 12 months ago. Going back over a decade, Rose was often a good man to have in mind for first round leader and throughout his career thus far, this tournament has been his most consistent major.
Rose comes in near top of the statistics for greens in regulation and crucially is showing much better figures on his two traditionally weak areas, scrambling and putting. He has been in the top 15 in both these areas so far on the tour this year suggesting the necessary improvements have been made. On the negative side, he has not been threatening to win in recent months, however this is surely the event he really wants to win and he may well have been priming himself to peak this week.
Top Debutant-Xander Schauffle
When watching the Sunday evening golf, one gets to know the different players and one up and comer who has caught my eye is Xander Schauffle. This player was in excellent form towards the back end of 2017 where he recorded two victories including edging out Justin Thomas in the big 30 player Tour Championship event.
He looks like a player who will go on to a fine career in golf and has to be interesting in this debutant section against opponents who have not yet made the same impact at the highest level.
