Irish Grand National – Fairyhouse Easter Monday-The Crafty Butcher
As the saying goes the early bird catches the best prices and with that in mind I am interested in Bet Victor’s quote of 50-1 about The Crafty Butcher in tomorrow’s Fairyhouse feature, the Boyle Sports Irish Grand National. I have followed this horse’s progress over the past couple of seasons and he always struck me as the type to excel over extreme distance’s. In fairness, Michael Hourigan’s charge has not looked as good yet over fences as hurdles, but the other side of that is that he remains on a competitive handicap mark for the big day.
Initially he started out quite pleasingly over fences winning at Killarney prior to finishing second to Band of Blood at Cork. He made notable late headway in graded company at Naas in January over 3 Miles shaping as if a stiffer test of stamina was needed. His latest couple of runs have been lacklustre , but I believe the ground drying out will be in his favour . In-addition, first time blinkers are applied and the services of Davy Condon have been acquired. A rank outsider often pops up in this race and to my mind this fella is a decent long-shot tomorrow.
