Ray Flanagan with Saturday selections at Galway and Goodwood
An exciting day’s racing once again.
Galway 3.15-The Westerner Lady and Master Appeal (w/o The Westerner Lady)
The Westerner Lady posted a strong effort at Killarney last time setting strong fractions from the front and crucially being able to maintain her gallop all the way to the line indicating she is useful. The speed figure awarded of 121 was equal to her handicap rating of 121-always an indication that an effort needs upgrading. She will mount a bold bid again today.
Master Appeal is also interesting. John Kiely can lay a horse out for a handicap and this lad has ran a few fair races in handicap company including a good second to The Job Is Right at this venue last October. It is always good to have previous good Galway form under your belt and he enjoys a nine pounds pull with The Westerner Lady on Killarney running.
Galway 4.25-Famous Milly
Could be interesting off a mark of 71 and a low weight of 8-4 receiving seventeen pounds from Fiery Speech.Milly shaped nicely against a smart time at Down Royal last time and an assessment of the form of the third horse Dapper Man indicates she is leniently treated.
Ran with encouragement on penultimate start at Naas and can be forgiven poor latest effort at Tipperary over inadequate five furlongs. Well berthed in stall one and might run well.
Galway 5.35-Captain Carleton and Masonbrook Lady
Captain Carleton has been a bit of an underachiever on the flat thus far apart from one success at Dundalk last winter. He remains feasibly treated though in comparison to his hurdles exploits and a fluent moving type I would not be surprised if he sprang a shock.
Masonbrook Lady could be the one to beat. She did it well at Gowran last time and is a strong staying type.
Goodwood-2.35-Del Harraild and Gold Faith
Holds a Great Voltigeur entry indicating he is held in high regard by William Haggas. Form of his win at Muisselburgh worked out very well and shaped with plenty of promise at Ascot. Could be the one today.
Gold Faith is worth a small saver. He got the job done in a taking manner at Newmarket recently and is on an upward curve.
Has to bounce back from a couple of below par efforts but interesting on earlier form including York third to Castle Harbour. Cheek-pieces applied.
