Steve Hughes has two picks for Ffos Las on Sunday
A very quiet Sunday with not too much quality on offer. I have two suggestions for the final flat meeting of the year at Ffos Las. We had a reasonable Saturday with a win for Aclaim (SP 3/1) and an each-way place for Vibrant Chords (advised 8/1).
Ffos Las 3.00: Bryght Boy
Still a maiden after twelve races, Bryght Boy can break his duck at Ffos Las this afternoon.
Connections look to have determined that he is best on a soft surface and on his last start he was beaten just a neck by Arctic Flower under those conditions at Lingfield. The winner that day went on to win another three races in the space of just three weeks.
Bryght Boy seemed to respond well to cheekpieces that day and hopefully they will have the same positive effect today.
Ffos Las 4.00: Rolling Maul
A useful jumper, Rolling Maul often ruined his chances by jumping hesitantly. However that of course is not an issue on the level and he has already shown what a useful galloper he is by going 3-3 under flat rules this season.
A useful bumper horse, he won twice at this track in that sphere. However his first proper flat race saw him land a Bath maiden in June. That was on fast going, but he won some good hurdle races on soft, notably at Cheltenham back in 2015.
It was no surprise therefore to see him win impressively on heavy ground here last month by 4l over this 2m trip. He then followed up in better company at Newmarket the following week, albeit he needed every yard of the 2m to get on top. Deeper ground today will help bring his stamina more into play today.
1pt each-way – Bryght Boy – 3.0 Ffos Las – 9/2 Bet365, BetVictor
1.5pts win – Rolling Maul – 4.0 Ffos Las – 6/4 general
