Hoping for Saturday Payment

Ray Flanagan with Saturday selections

Mala Beach and Don’t Tell No One gave us an unlikely 1-2 in the Troytown at Navan last Sunday.

A big Saturday afternoon’s racing today and a few selections

Fairyhouse- 1.25- Gwencily Berbas

Contesting his first handicap over fences. Looks well handicapped especially on his hurdling form and even his novice chase form is fair particularly his good second to Our Duke at Navan. Slight concern is the trip but was a free flowing type in his hurdling days and no reason for me to believe that he does not have enough pace.

Fairyhouse-3.05-Out of The Loop

Was available at 5-1 last night which has quickly disappeared.( the early bird catches the best prices) Shaped nicely in a hotter contest at Down Royal and judging on previous novice form will appreciate going back up in trip.

Newcastle- 3.10- Bishops Road

Has been well flagged in today’s Racing Post. The writers there could well be right though with Kerry Lee’s charge nicely handicapped on the basis of a solid run in a strong renewal last year against the likes of Bristol De Mai and Definetly Red. Could take advantage of dropping mark.

Newbury 1.50- Dino Velvet

Massive eyecatcher in the Fred Winter at Cheltenham. I am not convinced he wants the step up in trip today but undoubtedly well treated and trainer confident he will stay. Cannot be overlooked at 14s although it may be another day before he strikes.

Newbury 3.00- Singlefarmpayment, Vyta De Roc and Label Des Obeaux

Famous handicap known for years as The Hennessey, but now with a new sponser, the magic sign Ladbrokes.

Singlefarmpayment looks to tick all the right boxes. A very fluent traveller his natural ability is taylor-made for sitting out the back off a strong pace and coming through to pick up the pieces late on. Has strong previous experience with his narrow defeat by Un Temps De Tour at the festival.

Needs to improve on reappearance defeat by Cogry but reported not fully fit on that occasion. Still at the right end of the weights and huge bid expected.

Vyta De Roc may not be as classy as the typical profile of winners of this race but cannot be dismissed from the foot of the weights. Endured a difficult season last year as a second season chaser but was unlucky not to win the bet 365 Gold cup at the end.

Expected to progress this term and getting lumps of weight from the classier types he is handicapped to go close.

Label Des Obeaux is worth a small flier at a too big chalk of 40-1. Has been beaten previously in novice company by a number of these but at the same time has often been noted making decent late headway. Alan King reaches for headgear which he anticipates will sharpen his jumping and the extra yardage could be the key to making him competitive.
