Steve Hughes has two jumpers to follow on Monday
If it is a Monday in mid-winter than you can generally be assured there is a jumps fixture at Plumpton and this week is no exception. I have a selection there plus a speculative each-way bet at Fakenham.
Fakenham 1.30: Postbridge
Although she was well beaten at Huntingdon last week, I was quite impressed by the way Postbridge jumped that day on only her second chasing start and that promises much for this big drop in class here.
She was never going to be good enough to keep up with the likes of Casablanca Mix, but her jumping kept her into the race until the home straight. I saw enough in that to think she might be able to win a weak handicap of this ilk.
She already has two runners-up placings in bumpers at this track, and made all to win at Plumpton, so clearly goes well on flat left-handed tracks. She seems versatile regarding ground conditions and if she gets into as good a jumping rhythm as at Huntingdon she could take some passing.
Plumpton 1.40: Culture de Sivola
A step up in trip seemed to bring about plenty of improvement in Culture de Sivola when winning at Chepstow last time and a 5lb rise may not be enough to prevent the mare following up for trainer Nick Williams.
She won twice as a juvenile and was third in a decent Newbury handicap for 4yo’s one of the few races beyond 2m restricted to the youngsters. As can often be the case she struggled in her second season to defy the handicapper.
However she had dropped to a mark of 114 when winning that Chepstow race on her reappearance last month and the runner-up that day has since gone on to hack up over fences. This contest is another 2f, but on a sharp track she should have no problems lasting out. Her main rival looks to be Jester Jet, but that opponent makes a quick reappearance having run at Ascot last week and might find the ground slightly softer than ideal too.
