Audacious still ahead of the assessor

Steve Hughes has two jumpers to follow on Wednesday

Two jumps fixtures on contrasting ground on Wednesday. Good going for Ludlow but very soft ground at Haydock – I have a selection from each track. Tara View was placed for the each-way bet on Tuesday (SP 14/1).

Ludlow 2.05: Audacious Plan

The resurgence of Audacious Plan since joining Richard Newland continues apace and he can make it three in a row by winning Ludlow’s feature.

The 8yo showed useful form in his younger days with Rebecca Curtis before losing his form at a yard that has struggled of late. However that meant he started the season on a potentially very low mark and so it has proved to be.

He was beaten on his return at Uttoxeter, but his trainer thinks he has found the key to him and he actually needs good going. Kept to a sound surface since he has won a hurdle at Huntingdon and then landed the valuable Durham National at Sedgefield, winning with more in hand than a neck margin would suggest. Brian Hughes rode him superbly today and as a hold up horse than needs to be delivered quite late, he should be suited by a field full of front-runners.

Haydock 3.30: Quids In

Not tried on very soft ground since winning a maiden hurdle by no less than 13l at Uttoxeter in February, Quids In might find some improvement back on a testing surface in Haydock’s finale.

The 4yo made a promising start to his hurdling career, making the first four in his first five races in novice company. The Uttoxeter win was an obvious highlight, but he chased home the useful Long Call on heavy ground at Hereford and was also second at Newbury.

His last four runs have been less impressive, but all were on goodish ground and a step up in trip and return to soft ground might be in his favour here. In fairness his latest effort when second to High Expectations at Leicester was a good run and a promising start to his partnership with 7lb claimer Ross Turner who is back on board today.

Recommended bets:

1.5pts win – Audacious Plan – 2.05 Ludlow – 9/4 Paddy Power, BetVictor

1pt win – Quids In – 3.30 Haydock – 11/2 general
