Steve Hughes previews the two best races on Lingfield’s All Weather card
With jump racing looking doubtful on Tuesday I am concentrating on a decent All Weather fixture at Lingfield on Tuesday with selections from the two best handicaps on the card.
Lingfield 1.35: Emenem
In what could turn out to be a tactical affair, Emenem has the natural pace to take advantage in a slowly run race. This still improving 3yo has an excellent record on an artificial surface (3-9 with 4 other placed efforts).
Despite easing up the weights he remains in great heart and was a fine second at Wolverhampton last week, having previously been third over course and distance. Despite those good runs his mark has been left unchanged at 90.
If any jockey can exploit a tactical advantage around here it is Adam Kirby, who takes the mount today. Kirby rode Emenem to victory here the only time he has been on board previously.
Lingfield 2.10: Royal Birth
A listed winner over course and distance back in February, Royal Birth was a real eyecatcher in another listed race here over 6f last month. Back down to handicap company he looks decent value.
Travelling well in behind the leaders last time, he got no run at all turning for home so an 8th of ten finishing position was no reflection on his performance. One concern today is the widest draw of all in nine, but at least he should get a clear run around them into the straight.
There is plenty of early pace here through Alsvinder and Come On Dave, which might help to set this up for a closer. There is every chance the track will have to be harrowed a bit deeper to keep the frost at bay which could aid Royal Birth’s proven stamina too.
1pt win – Emenem – 1.35 Lingfield – 3/1 general
0.75pts each-way – Royal Birth – 2.10 Lingfield – 6/1 general
