Steve Hughes has two selections for Wednesday as the All Weather keeps the show on the road
Three All Weather meetings today and I am concentrating on the two quality races with a selection each from Lingfield and Kempton. We had a successful Tuesday with Emenem (advised 3/1) winning and Royal Birth placing for the each-way bet (advised 6/1).
Lingfield 2.00: Makaarim
Makaarim was a winning selection for us on his last start at Wolverhampton – his first run over as short as 7f. That trip proved to be ideal for him and he can follow up over this same trip today for trainer Hughie Moprrison.
Apart from one bad run last winter, Makaarim is proving a model of consistency on an artificial surface with two wins and two runners up positions from six starts. Despite winning over an extended mile as a juvenile at Wolverhampton, he showed good speed throughout on his last run, before using that stamina to good effect late on.
A handy position prove useful on the track at yesterday’s fixture and a low draw in stall three ought to ensure that Fran Berry has him in a good place throughout to strike turning for home.
Kempton 6.40: Azam
Trainer Mick Appleby must always be feared with his All Weather horses and Azam might just be primed to succeed for the first time at his new yard with this step up to 16f expected to suit.
He was with John Gosden as a juvenile and won here over 10f with plenty to spare, indicating this horse has stamina aplenty. He rather lost his way after that and in truth has not really shown a great deal for his new yard.
Front running tactics on his first three starts did not suit, but held up last time over 12f at Wolverhampton, he did show more finishing strongly in the home straight. He is now on a career low mark of 79 and at the time of writing there has already been some money for him which suggests stable confidence is high of a better show today.
1pt win – Makaarim – 2.00 Lingfield – 11/4 general
0.75pts each-way – Azam – 6.40 Kempton – 8/1 general
