Steve Hughes is hoping that trainer Colin Tizzard can land a double at Taunton on Tuesday
Despite a rather barren run in recent weeks, trainer Colin Tizzard has a strong hand for Taunton’s meeting on Tuesday and the two featured handicaps can both go the way of the Dorset handler. We had a successful start to the week with headline selection De Rasher Counter an 11/4 (SP) winner on Monday.
Taunton 2.10: Sandy Beach
A convincing winner first time out last season, Sandy Beach looks capable of repeating the feat having been given some leeway by the handicapper.
An impressive winner over 2m4f at Newbury off a mark of 127, he could not quite match that effort in two subsequent outings from an 8lb higher rating. Nevertheless he was a good third over this 3m trip at Kempton, before finding testing going too tough at Sandown.
He has been dropped a generous 5lbs for that last run and he has a good track record over fences here with form figures of 12U, his win coming over this 3m distance.
Taunton 2.45: Padleyourowncanoe
Juvenile Padleyourowncanoe has been well placed by Colin Tizzard this winter and can land a hat-trick for the yard at Taunton this afternoon.
He had a run in the summer for his previous yard in one of the first 3yo hurdles of the season, but stepped up on that effort when a fair fourth to Triumph Hurdle hope We Have A Dream at Warwick on his first run for Tizzard. That entitled him to qualify for a handicap and that was the route connections chose when sending him over this course and distance last time.
The horse proved to be very well in off 115, thrashing stablemate Molineaux by 8l and a 12lb rise may not be enough to stop him as he can still race off a very low weight of 10-6 thanks to the 11lb weight-for-age allowance.
0.75pts each-way – Sandy Beach – 2.10 Taunton – 8/1 general
1pt win – Padleyourowncanoe – 2.45 Taunton – 5/2 general
