Steve Hughes has two each-way selections for Friday
In truth it was harder than usual on a Friday to find some bets with generally lower quality action than normal. However I have found a couple of horses at odds big enough for some each-way value. We had a good Thursday with headline selection I Just Know landing the North Yorkshire National (SP 4/1) and Graceful James placing for the each-way bet (advised 7/1).
Huntingdon 2.00: First Du Charmil
A very strong traveller in his races, First Du Charmil has not found as much as expected off the bridle on occasions at the end of the race. However he is building in experience now and this sharp track could be the best option for him to find for pressure.
He ran some solid races in defeat for Tom Lacey last season, placing third on debut at Towcester and then fourth at Newbury, where he perhaps failed to see out the 2m5f trip. That was the first occasion though where he cruised through most of the contest like a horse with a decent engine.
He ran a very similar race on his reappearance at Southwell last month, also his first start for Sam Drinkwater. He can perhaps be excused tiring late on this occasion because of the nine month absence. He should be fitter today and his high cruising speed ought to be used to best effect around this tight track.
Newcastle 7.15: Deansgate
Very consistent over this 7f trip, Deansgate looks sure to give us a run for each-way money once again.
Straight tracks seem to suit him and he was an authoritative winner at Doncaster in the summer. He is just as adept on the All Weather and although he is without a win in eight attempts on sand, he has never been out of the first five.
His best effort was probably his last one, when second over this course and distance to Equiano Springs. He got on well that day with Paul Mulrennan who is back in the saddle today. I also like his middle draw as he is a horse than can take a pull early on, but he should be able to get plenty of early cover to help him settle.
0.75pts each-way – First Du Charmil – 2.00 Huntingdon – 11/1 Paddy Power
