Ray Flanagan with Sunday selections
Thought for the day: Has there ever been a better 16-year old jockey or a better five pound claimer than James Bowen??
William Henry (7-1 sp) was brave when it mattered most in the Lanzarote Hurdle yesterday. Three selections at Fairyhouse today two of which are trained by Gordon Elliot (pictured after winning the Grand National with Silver Birch- the tough thing is that none of us get any younger)
Not a bad handicapper in the UK for David Dennis where he contested a couple of valuable Cheltenham handicaps. Solid start since moving to Elliot finishing second to Ballyoisin on debut and winning under a big weight at Cork. Had two hard races there in close succession and possibly no surprise that he flopped next time out.
Freshened up with a six week break we can expect an improved performance today and he should not be far away.
Fairyhouse 3.05- De Plotting Shed
While granted that it was generally over longer distances, De Plotting Shed was a fair tool over hurdles last season and certainly the superior of today’s race favourite Saturnas in that sphere.
On that basis alone even, he looks worth chancing at generous enough odds of 7-2.
Struggled with jumping in three point to point outings but ran a decent fourth in what was an above average bumper at Leopardstown on St Stephens Day. Some big stables in opposition again but this lad has the benefit of experience and if the newcomers are not anything special he could be the one.
