Steve Hughes has two more for the All Weather on Wednesday
With the cold weather threatening the jumps action once more I am again sticking to the sand action on Wednesday. Headline selection Foolaad took the feature race for us on Tuesday (advised 15/8).
Chelmsford 4.00: Excellent George
This hastily arranged additional fixture offers Excellent George an ideal opportunity to follow up a win on his last visit to the track when tipped up in this column.
This sharp 6f is absolutely perfect for him. He is not quite quick enough over 5f, whilst a stiffer 6f seems to stretch his stamina. That appeared to be the case at Kempton on his last run when third to Shamsaya where he could never quite reel the winner in.
However he was a comfortable winner here the time before when sitting behind the early leader before pouncing to take a winning lead on straightening for home. Identical tactics can pay off here as perennial front-runner Tavener is likely to set a strong pace, but from his low draw the selection can just sit behind and pick him off in the final 2f.
Wolverhampton 6.25: Right Touch & Mickey
I narrowed this down to two but cannot separate the pair, so am backing both to try and make a profit.
Right Touch is eight now and does not win frequently these days. However he has been in decent form throughout the autumn and winter period, notably when second over 7f at Lingfield in December. I am excusing his last run on account of him being held wide on the track throughout. He is far better drawn today near the inside for the short run to the first bend. Paul Hanagan takes the mount today and his turn surely must be near.
Mickey was a huge disappointment when well backed for his return to the track from fifteen months off when making his comeback in that same race where Right Touch was second. However connections are trying again here and hoping that fitting first time cheekpieces will buck his ideas up. This track will be no issue as he won his maiden here back in 2016 and his form the rest of that summer was excellent including runners-up placings at Newmarket and Haydock. If he retains that ability perhaps that last run will have served to sharpen him up for this.
1.5pts win – Excellent George – 4.00 Chelmsford – 5/2 Paddy Power
1pt win – Right Touch – 6.25 Wolverhampton – 11/2 general
1pt win – Mickey – 6.25 Wolverhampton – 6/1 general
