Feeling Blue at Punchestown

Ray Flanagan with Sunday selections

Punchestown 4.20- Folsom Blue

Although lacking the scope and size of a typical staying chaser, Folsom Blue has been a consistent type in this sphere for Mouse Morris over the last couple of seasons. His last strong run over fences was almost eleven months ago now where he was just denied by Abolitionist at Naas.

Having gone a bit stale for Mouse towards the end of last season, the horse appears to have been revitalised for the switch to Gordon Elliot, albeit he has only raced over hurdles yet for his new handler. Those three hurdle outings have all been eye-catching though and this contest looks tailor -made for him reverting to fences.

The main concern is that the race will come too soon after a surprise trip to Sandown eight days ago but at least we know the horse is in good form and we will take the risk.

Exeter- 3.35-Henri Parry Morgan

Has been underwhelming since a fine campaign as a novice back in 2016. Signs of a return to form on debut at Newbury this season and I could not judge his latest run at Plumpton too harshly given that he was lumping 12 stone over 3M 4 F on heavy ground- something which was always going to be too much for a temperamental sort like him.

Has a much better chance over 3miles with less weight on his back here and if jumping fluently it could be the time for him to re-discover his best efforts.
