Feeling the Irony for the Imperial Cup

Ray Flanagan with Saturday selections

Thought for the day: I have no desire to lose money today on the eve of Cheltenham.

Kidmenever (8-1) was a winner in the previous column ten days ago now.A few small interests this Saturday

Sandown 2.25-Master of Irony

Big eye-catcher in useful Newbury event back in November. Held a big chance in the big Irish Handicap at Leopardstown in February only to be pulled out following a nightmare journey across the Irish Sea.

Ideally would prefer better ground but otherwise has an interesting profile.

Sandown 3.35- Fourth Act

Tricky customer who can ruin his chance by not being able to keep in touch in the races. Has run well against stronger company though in the past and application of blinkers may sharpen him through the race.

Gowran 3.40-Bonny Kate

Another horse who has become inconsistent but trainer comments in today’s Racing Post very encouraging. Holds a live chance on best form and ran pretty well in the Troytown last November. Could be hard to get past if getting into a relentless galloping rhythm out in front.

Meydan 3.30- Earnshaw

Super Saturday in the desert and an interesting concluding race. Earnshaw usually tends to leave it too late to get going but this is only his second attempt at 12 furlongs which might give him that bit of extra time he needs to find top stride.

Consistent sort in decent company and holds definite place possibilities.
