Steve Hughes has a single bet on Tuesday
A typical low grade set of races on Tuesday, but Beverley does stage a decent handicap in the afternoon, where a horse beginning to build up a fine track record is favoured. Peruvien Bleu was placed for the each-way bet in the previous column on Sunday (advised 6/1).
Beverley 4.10: Alejandro
For a 9yo having his 84th career race, Alejandro has been an infrequent visitor to Beverley, but with a course record reading 121 it looks worth backing him to win again after a fine run just a few days ago at Chester.
This horse thrives on his racing and is usually best followed once fully tuned up for the season, so I disregarded him on his first run for three months at Chester. However he produced a fine effort over 7f there to place third, staying on well late on. At his age he probably needs a bit further these days and this stiff mile should fit the bill.
It was over this course and distance that he gained his last race win, twelve months ago and he is able to race off a 3lb lower mark today. Well drawn on the inside to take advantage of the constantly turning track, he should come on for that recent Chester run and prove tough to beat here.
1pt win – Alejandro – 4.10 Beverley – 3/1 general
