Steve Hughes has a best bet for Monday
The outstanding race of the day in Britain takes place at Newton Abbot this afternoon with a good turnout for a valuable class 2 handicap hurdle. I have an each-way hopeful for the race.
Newton Abbot 3.20: Demon D’Aunou
Very impressive on his British debut at Market Rasen in the autumn, Demon D’Aunou has yet to progress from that run. However he has shown glimpses of form since and should have conditions in his favour this afternoon.
His form in his native France came on top of the ground conditions and it was on good ground where he made such a good impression at Market Rasen, albeit at quite a lowly level when scooting clear without coming off the bridle. His next two efforts in novice company were fair, but no better, but both came on soft going.
He did get his good ground on his return from a three month absence at Ayr in April, but pulled too hard on his comeback to do himself justice. He was keen again at Warwick last time, but still moved menacingly into contention turning for home before fading. This much sharper track will place more emphasis on speed which is a definite plus, whilst another dry and sunny day is expected to ensure his favoured ground is in place.
0.75pts each-way – Demon D’Aunou – 3.20 Newton Abbot – 10/1 general
