Ray Flanagan with Day One Royal Ascot selections
thought for the day: Being able to make a decision and keeping my bets in moderation are the two areas I intend to really improve on with my Horse Racing.
Ascot 2.30- Benbatl
Rapid improver at Meydan over the spring carnival which culminated in emphatic win at Group One level on World Cup night. The current top milers do not look exceptional and this fella could be the new star.
Ascot 4.45- Dannyday and Dubawi Fifty
Dannyday looked a stayer going places when landing the Northumberland Plate consolation race at Newcastle two years ago. Absent since that fine victory he returned to action at Goodwood recently with a pleasing fourth to Platitude. Has a touch of class and gears and could be the one with conditions on the quick side.
My gut feeling is that Dubawi Fifty will find one or two too good for him, however he is a solid competitor and as one of the few guaranteed stayers he should make the frame. His cesarewitch fourth last season was particularly good.
Ascot 5.20- Leshlaa and Kidmenever
Two lively outsiders representing the boys in blue Godolphin.
Leshlaa is the mount of Christophe Soumillon (pictured) and looks overpriced despite his five pound penalty. Also an improved performer at Meydan in the spring, his four length defeat of Blair House was a cracking effort.
Kidmenever posted a nice performance also at Meydan, winning a competitive handicap cosily despite having raced wide covering more ground than the majority of the field. He looks easily listed class.
