Is it Reckless to seek a 100-1 winner

Ray Flanagan with Ascot and Ayr selections

Ayr 3.30- Kings Gift

On a decent mark based on good efforts at York last season. Caught the eye at Wetherby on seasonal debut and probably found ten furlongs too far on latest outing. Of definite interest back at one mile here.

Ayr 4.50- Speedo Boy

Entered my notebook with good efforts at Newmarket and Ascot in a pair of hot handicaps last season. Perhaps a little disappointing on seasonal return also at Ascot, but worth another chance today.

Ascot 5.00-Reckless Endeavour

One of the things I have wondered at times is will I ever pick a 100-1 winner. Former ex-Irish trained Reckless Endeavour could be the opportunity today. Useful tool for Ger Lyons in Ireland where he was unlucky not to land the Ahonoora handicap at Galway a few seasons ago. Campaigned at up to one mile by Lyons but has been re-ignited as a sprinter since moving to Jamie Osborne. Mainly campaigned on the polytrack since but interesting reverting to turf today with the layers obviously forgetting his previous Irish form.

Ascot 5.35-Count Octave

Comes from what was a good crop of staying 3-year olds in 2017. Count Octave’s best effort was a close second to new Gold Cup winner Stradivarius in the Queens Vase. Patchy enough profile since then but not disgraced in the St Leger and this season against the smart Defoe at Newmarket. Hard to be confident he will get this trip but is a young horse with potential and I think I would rather chance him than sticking with the older brigade who are likely to be regressing.
