Steve Hughes has two for Worcester on Sunday
After the drama of Royal Ascot, something a bit different for Sunday with two jumpers to follow from Worcester.
Worcester 2.40: Ballinure
Despite winning last time out, Ballinure has not always convinced with his finishing efforts, so a wind op since that Towcester success could see him to better effect again this afternoon.
A fast ground specialist, trainer Nicky Henderson has decided to plan a summer campaign for him once again. He made a promising start to his chasing career last summer with victories in novice chases at Market Rasen and Stratford. He was then well beaten on his handicap chase debut at Ascot, but that came in the autumn, by which time the ground was already getting too soft.
He battled on well enough on his return to the track at Towcester over hurdles last month, but was all out at the finish. This sharper track and that wind op might see him finish off his race better and he looks on a feasible mark of 127.
Worcester 3.40: Litterale Ci
An excellent summer hurdle can go the way of the progressive mare Litterale Ci who is really beginning to justify a hefty price tag now she is being campaigned on good going.
Her best form in France on the flat came on top of the ground, but she was in danger of becoming disappointing after flopping a few times over hurdles. She did win on soft at Ludlow in December, but it was obvious she hated the heavy ground at Cheltenham next time and she was laboured on similar going at Wincanton in March.
However drying conditions have favoured her and she has won her last two races. A narrow battling success over 2m at Stratford was followed by a more comfortable success on her first try at 2m4f at Ffos Las last time. She has been partnered by Aine O’Connor for all three wins and the useful amateur is back on board today.
