Nice to be Natural at Newcastle

Ray Flanagan with Saturday selections

thought for the day: I fear I am not the picker I once was but I hope to keep enjoying it.

Newcastle 1.30- Dannyday and Sam Missile

Dannyday won this race two years ago in convincing fashion. Encouraging Goodwood return after a break and excused poor Ascot Stakes effort. Should win this if finding the magic of 2016.

Sam Missile ran a solid race in the Northumberland Plate last season and caught the eye out the back in the Ascot Stakes recently. Likely type at a big price.

Newcastle 2.05- Natural Scenery

Ran very well when runner-up last year and fine effort in the Ebor subsequently. Mixed bag over at Meydan this spring but staying on fourth to Rare Rhythm was better effort than pundits have given him credit for. Suspicion tapeta his best surface though and possible he can find a little bit more improvement this afternoon which can propel him to victory.

Curragh 5.55- Western Boy and Top O The Ra

Western Boy has been a consistent sort over the years and deserves one of these pots. Well backed over course and distance last month he shaped as if needing the run after travelling well and could be the one today.

Top O the Ra won a conditions event reasonably well at Leopardstown. A formline through the third Great Trango suggests he should be right in the thick of things.
