Ray Flanagan with Galway selections
thought for the day: I wonder would it be better to ban all phone/internet and apps betting. Are they making it too easy to gamble and are they taking away the social aspect of the street shop.
Great Trango (20-1) was a much needed winner yesterday.
A few for a sporting interest again this afternoon.
Galway 2.50- Dinkum Diamond
Testing conditions might just tip the scales in favour of the light-weighted runners. Dinkum is getting a bit long in the tooth now, but he has tumbled down the weights from a year ago, and could not have been more eye-catching when finishing strongly for fifth here on Tuesday evening. This is a much tougher race but he is at the foot of the weights and will be interesting to see if he can cut the mustard.
Galway 3.25- Yulong Gold Fairy
King of Galway Dermot Weld is surely due a winner. Yulong Gold Fairy appeals as the form choice on the basis of her 1,000 Guineas trial second on heavy combined with her fair fifth in the big race itself. Well drawn and should give it a good shot.
Galway 4.35- Cartwright and Project Bluebook
The 2018 crop of novice hurdlers were a smart bunch and appeared to have the edge in general when they met the more experienced handicappers (Kaleshnikov is just one example).
Cartwright contested some decent novice events running close to the likes of Hardline and Speak Easy at Navan while not finishing far behind Whiskey Sour at Punchestown. I have a hunch the first-time blinkers could eek out a little improvement today and could be on a fair opening mark.
Project Bluebook was blooded in this event last year as a four-year old and fared ok having raced possibly too wide throughout. Not disgraced in the Greatwood Hurdle in November and at Aintree in April since then, and has had a recent pipe-opener on the flat. Probably needs to improve by six/seven pounds but each-way chance all the same.
Galway 5.15- Townshend and Dassmyhorse
Townshend is well weighted comparative to his hurdles rating and this strong travelling type should be suited to the track. A little worrying how he finished tamely at Killarney but that was over two miles and could be hard to beat dropped back to 12 today.
Dassmyhorse was a slight eye-catcher in the same Killarney race and has been unlucky to bump into a pair of useful types either side of that particular run. May benefit from a strong jockey replacing an apprentice and good each-way bet.
