Ray Flanagan with Galway Friday selections
Galway 6.50- Gustavus Vassa and Espoir D’e Soleil
Gustavus Vassa has ran two crackers in defeat this season just getting chinned by Sea The Lion on both occasions. The suitability of the ground is a possible question mark but he shaped ok on it in the November Handicap last season and strikes me as a tough staying type who should handle a slog.
Espoir De Soleil has been disappointing ever since a promising effort behind Aared at The Curragh in June. He comes from a soft ground family though and should improve on recent efforts with underfoot conditions more in his favour.
Galway 7.55-Vieux Morvan
Vieux Morvan is a French-recruit with plenty of soft ground form. Has ran two good races since joining Joseph O Brien both in the Paddy Power at Leopardstown and again at HQ on February weekend where he was unlucky to come up against the very well handicapped Last Goodbye. If this race has been the plan and if he is primed, he might do it for us and for Joseph O Brien who is yet to strike this week.
Bhutan has been running well enough in competitive handicap hurdles over the summer and holds decent prospects here particularly if the ground dries out somewhat during the day.
