Ray Flanagan with Saturday selections
thoughts for the day: The reason punters like myself lose money is that we back our own selections and are ruled by our emotions. It may be wiser to follow the selections of proper horse racing analysts who know how to pick the winners and who bet in a disciplined ,non-emotional manner. It would be better to follow the advice of people such as my colleague on this site, the outstanding Steve Hughes.
Ascot 2.50 Via Serependity
Could be one for Hayley Turner. Via has been running well in top handicaps this term and posted another solid effort in the International Stakes at Ascot. Hayley can hopefully boss the race in this smaller field and the horse’s battling quality should put him right in the mix.
Ascot 4.00-George of Hearts
Much vaunted performer this term having been heavily punted in the Britannia and subsequently marked up as an eye-catcher from the race. Appears to be a pacey type who has not been lasting home over one mile. Interesting to see if dropping back to six furlongs can work the oracle.
Golf- USPGA-Brooks Koepka
Where in times past, golf majors were dominated by a small group of top players. nowadays we have a plethora of over 100 elite golfers who are all capable of winning on a given day.
If there is to be an outstanding champion though in the current era, I believe it is not Johnson, McElroy, Speith and co, instead it will be Brooks Koepka who will be the man.
A truly wonderful golfer , Brooks has all the shots in his locker and who is is only now realising his potential and really putting consistent performances together.
While all the field struggled at Shinnecock Hills in June, Brooks despite having been plus 7 at one stage , eventually powered his way through the field for victory. He was in similar unstoppable form at Bellerive yesterday, shooting a 63 to put him only two off the lead.
As commentator Butch Harman says, “Brooks Koepka just keeps coming”. I expect the powerful Florida native to maintain his surge over the next two rounds and run out a comfortable winner come Sunday night.
