Steve Hughes has two selections from the Tim Easterby yard at York on Sunday
As usual there are plenty of runners for York’s only Sunday card on the calendar. Trainer Tim Easterby has plenty of ammunition for one of his local tracks and I have two fancies from his yard for the two best handicaps on the card. We got on the scoresheet yesterday through Reshoun at Haydock (advised 15/2).
York 2.20: Give it Some Teddy
Trainer Tim Easterby has been in cracking form all season and Give it Some Teddy has been contributing to that run with a couple of wins. He can back up a recent Ripon success with another victory here.
He is one who should not have been adversely affected by yesterday’s rain. He won his maiden at Redcar on similar ground last autumn before finishing a fine second at Newmarket in a big field again on good-to-soft.
Given the fine summer weather we have enjoyed he has been mainly racing on faster going this season. He coped fine with that and won over 9f here, before that win over a mile at Ripon. He also raced well on cut last month at Hamilton though and provided his stamina holds out over this extended 10f, he is in the form to progress again.
York 4.00: The Knot Is Tied
Stamina has clearly been the key to The Knot is Tied and after another easy win at Thirsk last week, the fast improving 3yo is taken to land his biggest prize yet at York.
His progression can be measured by the fact he ran General Zoff to 2l at Beverley in July, his first try over 2m, despite receiving 8lbs win weight. However he then beat the same horse at Thirsk last week by 2l on 12lbs worse terms and despite being eased down late on.
In between times he had won minor races at Catterick and Redcar and this galloping track should suit ideally. The only imponderable is whether he will handle going on the soft side of good having raced entirely on fast ground this summer.
0.75pts each-way – Give it Some Teddy – 2.20 York – 7/1 general
1pt win – The Knot Is Tied – 4.0 York – 5/1 general
