Steve Hughes has a best bet for the opening day of the Leger meeting
Wednesday is traditionally the weakest of the four days on Town Moor for the Leger meeting and in truth this is no exception. The Leger Legends race has novelty value but is not really a betting medium. The final race on the card, whilst not exactly star studded, does look worth an interest.
Doncaster 5.15: Sheepscar Lad
A winner on seasonal debut over course and distance, Sheepscar Lad has not won since, but might welcome a return to ground on the softer side of good for the first time.
The 4yo can handle any type of ground, but is definitely suited by some cut. It was genuinely soft when he gamely fought off fifteen opponents here in April off just a 3lb lower mark and his form figures on ground softer than good throughout 2017 read 21431.
Two second places on faster ground – and over 6f – at Ripon and Pontefract recently confirmed he remains in good heart, but he seemed well suited by this stiff 5f in the spring and having run in class 3 company ever since that win, will welcome this drop back to class 4 this afternoon.
