Williams the man to follow at Epsom

Steve Hughes picks two Stuart Williams trained runners at Epsom on Sunday

It is the final day of action on Epsom Downs on 2018 and whilst it is a low key card in terms of quality there does seem to be a decent betting opportunity courtesy of trainer Stuart Williams who has sound claims in the two 7f handicaps. We had a solid Saturday with victory for Alemaratalyoum (advised 13/2) and an each-way place for UAE Prince (14/1).

Epsom 3.35: Juanito Chico

Winner of a valuable handicap at the 2017 Derby meeting here, Juanito Chico made a very underwhelming start to this term. However a break and a change of yards might well have helped – if so he is very well handicapped for this return to Epsom.

He started the season on a mark of 91, after an excellent previous campaign highlighted by that course and distance win in June. As a result of his under performing this term he is back to 83 now, just 3lb above that last winning mark.

There was definite encouragement to be gleamed for his first start for Stuart Williams – and first run for three months at Sandown recently. A first time tongue-strap did not do any harm either and he might be expected to come on for that outing. A hold up performer, he is likely to be suited by a strong pace here with several horses that like to make the running in the line up.

Epsom 4.10: Glenn Coco

Ultra consistent throughout his career (apart from a slow start to this season), Glenn Coco has run into top form in recent weeks and can take advantage of champion jockey Silvestre de Sousa’s services today.

The grey is quite a versatile performer having won over a mile last season and twice on the All Weather. However he seems just as at home on turf and had the pace to place third in the grey horse event at Newmarket over just 6f last month.

Since then he was a good second on the Rowley Mile last weekend and has the nice mix of early pace and stamina required for this track given the constant twists, turns and undulations.

Recommended bets:

1pt win – Juanito Chico – 3.35 Epsom – 100/30 William Hill

1pt win – Glenn Coco – 4.10 Epsom – 9/2 general
