I’m on Early for Chepstow

Steve Hughes has a couple of best bets for Chepstow’s Wednesday jumps card

There are big fields largely throughout at Chepstow with the rains finally arriving this autumn. As a result there are some value bets around and I have two each-way bets on the card.

Chepstow 3.10: Early Du Lemo

I was really impressed with Early Du Lemo as a potential future chaser when he made his British debut at Cheltenham almost two years ago. We have not seen much of the 5yo since, but today is his first chance to prove his potential over fences.

Gary Moore’s gelding has the size and scope to make a much better chaser, but his hurdles form was none too shabby. He was third to Defi Du Seuil (the subsequent Triumph Hurdle winner) that day at Cheltenham before filling a similar position at Warwick.

He raced just the twice last season, both runs coming within a week in the spring. Again there was promise with a second in a competitive Newbury handicap, followed by a fifth in the Sussex Champion Hurdle. However I expect him to improve again over fences, the rain overnight will have helped and he has had a much better preparation for this term.

Chepstow 3.40: Dashel Drasher

Having taken his chance in the Cheltenham Festival bumper, Dashel Drasher is clearly well thought of by connections and looks overpriced for his hurdles debut at Chepstow.

A heavy ground winner of a bumper on debut at Wincanton, he was far from disgraced in 13th at Cheltenham – not bad for a horse with the scope to improve for jumping and with so little experience under his belt. Admittedly he under performed back at Wincanton in April, but the ground was probably quicker than ideal by then.

The expected rain will surely be to his benefit. Trainer Jeremy Scott knows this family well having trained his two half-sisters, both having won races, whilst the gelding is a son of the under-rated stallion Passing Glance, sire of the likes of Attaglance and Fountains Windfall.

Recommended bets:

0.75pts each-way – Early Du Lemo – 3.10 Chepstow – 11/1 Paddy Power

0.75pts each-way – Dashel Drasher – 3.40 Chepstow – 16/1 Bet365, BetVictor
