Have we the right Cyrname at Ascot

Ray Flanagan with Saturday selections

thought for the day: “I enjoy my Horse Racing and I enjoy my gambling.”

Not the best of Saturday’s punting wise but a few for a sporting interest at any rate, including three representatives of Paul Nicholls.

Haydock 1.50- Cliffs of Dover and Admiral Barratry

Cliifs of Dover looks reasonably treated on the basis of his juvenile form a couple of seasons ago where he defeated the likes of Nietsche and Master Blueeyes with ease. Has been racing on the flat this autumn following a spell on the sidelines and nothing wrong with his recent efforts although he was well beaten in the Cesarewitch having gone out in front like a scalded cat. Free going sort who will enjoy conditions and emphasis on speed hopefully today.

Admiral Baritry is interesting on the basis of his Newbury novice form were he was not far behind Lostintranslation with Black Op behind. Suspicion he is not the quickest and somewhat quirky but still reason to believe that he is pretty well in at the weights here.

Haydock 2.25- Captain Cattistock

First Assignment has been good on his last two starts but what has he beaten. It is possible he could face a stronger opponent today in the shape of Captain Cattistock. Paul Nicholls horse was progressive last season and was unlucky not to finish closer in a strong novice race at Cheltenham in April. 3 miles should be ok with a good ground and a sharp track and could cause a slight upset.

Ascot 3.15- Cyrname

Cracking effort in the Scillly Isles last February. Good effort at Aintree in spring and fair return recently at Carlisle. Dropping back in distance may help today and could stretch them under bold front running tactics.
