Ray Flanagan with St Stephens Day Racing selections
thought for the day: “I think I will just enjoy my Horse Racing for the rest of the Christmas.”
After the Christmas lull, a busy period of racing is upon us and while I will probably not a pick a winner over the week, hopefully we will enjoy it and not lose too much.
A few for an interest this afternoon.
Down Royal 1.35- Sinorio
Posted a good effort at Limerick last time finishing a close fourth despite a few sloppy jumps and conceding ground by racing very wide throughout. Perhaps a little surprising to see him such a warm order to beat the horse that finished ahead of him at Limerick but step up in trip looks sure to suit and looks the most likely winner.
Wincanton 1.25- Black Mischief
No surprise to see the morning plunge on Padleyourowncanoe, but Black Mischief sets a strong standard to aim at all the same. Having initially got a little outpaced last time at Haydock he rallied strongly to win decisively in the end. Factoring in O’ Connor’s claim the horse is effectively only one pound higher here and there promises to be further improvement over the extra trip.
Kempton 3.40- Montelbano-
Could be interesting on debut for John Joe O Neill. Ex-Willie Mullins recruit who had useful novice form against the likes of Blue Berry as a novice. Somewhat inconsistent profile overall but latest two chase efforts were decent and with going on the quick side today, emphasis on speed could make him a player.
