Hoping for a Chepstow Carve up

Steve Hughes has a best bet for Monday’s jumps card at Chepstow

A pretty ordinary card at Chepstow in comparison to the recent Welsh National fixture, but I have a best bet in the 2m chase. We enjoyed a good day at Plumpton on Sunday with a couple of shorties – Phoenix Way (SP 11/8) and The Two Amigos (advised 15/8) for a 5.5/1 double.

Chepstow 3.15: Doc Carver

Trainer Henry Oliver is one of those trainers who brings his horses on gradually through the season and Doc Carver should be primed to go on his third run of this campaign.

This will be just his third chase under rules, but he had plenty of experience over fences in Ireland in points, where the 3m trip was generally too great a test of stamina. He has been a consistent performer however over this 2m trip.

A fair eighth on seasonal return here in a big field, only beaten 6l, he was then third around Southwell last time, but gave the impression that a return to a stiffer track today will suit. This good-to-soft ground is ideal and he runs off a career low mark of 110 today. In addition he has had wind surgery since his last run whilst the application of a tongue-strap could bring out some improvement too.

Recommended bet:

1pt win – Doc Carver – 3.15 Chepstow – 4/1 general
