Steve Hughes’ best bet for Thursday comes at Leicester
Trainer Philip Hobbs’ yard has had a welcome resurgence this season and they can claim another winner in a decent handicap hurdle at Leicester.
Leicester 2.20: Master Work
The form profile of Master Work over the past few seasons has reflected the overall form of the yard in that he started in flying form last season only to lose his way dramatically. This term has been one of solid improvement and he can land a third win at Leicester today.
He looked a promising sort when winning on his first racecourse appearance of any type at Exeter on good going last season, but then completely lost his way in four subsequent starts. However the Hobbs horses were a sick bunch for most of last term and became well handicapped as a result. With that bug now a distant memory they have been making hay of late.
That is certainly the case with Master Work who again enjoyed the fast ground to win at Warwick on November, beating Chief Brody by 2l. He then defied an 8lb rise to win even more decisively over this course and distance three weeks later. A classy handicap at Cheltenham proved beyond him on his last start, though he was not disgraced in fifth, but this is more his level and again he will have fast going to utilise.
1pt win – Master Work – 2.20 Leicester – 5/2 general
