Ray Flanagan with Saturday selections
thought for the day: I wonder could my future lie outside of Ireland
Headline selection Baroot was a 33-1 stunner at Meydan on Thursday. However my own joy was shortlived as Paddy Power whom I had backed the horse with at a morning price of 7-1 failed to pay me the 33-1. Apparently guaranteed prices do not apply to our wonderful Thursday racing in the desert.
Shame on you Paddy Power and shame on all bookmakers who did not pay the 33-1 sp odds.
A few selections for an interest this Saturday.
Warwick 3.00- Impulsive Star and Duel At Dawn
I take these two second-season chasers to dominate. Impulsive Star was a useful hurdler a couple of seasons ago and recorded successes at undulating tracks similar to Warwick. His chase record thus far has been slightly more patchy, however he ran a pretty good race in the 4 miler at the festival, form which has been well boosted by Sizing Tennessee. He looks well handicapped on that effort and could make his light-weight tell.
Fellow 2018 novice Duel At Dawn could be the danger. He ran in good company as a novice and also has strong formlines against Ma Parfois and the aforementioned Sizing Tennessee. Could have a big say.
Kempton 2.40- And The New
Not badly treated on pick of efforts and particularly solid one last time attempting to give weight to useful Lisp. Up in trip today and could benefit from change in riding tactics ( hold-up). Strong renewal of the race but capable of good showing.
Fairyhouse 2.10- Blazer
Slight concern about suitability of trip but in-fairness he was second in a Galway Hurdle only a few months ago and what other horse in this race would have been capable of finishing second in that race. Ran well despite a few sloppy jumps in the Paddy Power and a more fluent fencing round could give him every chance.
