Steve Hughes waits till the evening for Monday’s bet
Modest racing over jumps so I am waiting for Wolverhampton’s floodlit card for Monday’s best bet.
Wolverhampton 7.15: Michele Strogoff
In great form on the All Weather this winter, I think Michele Strogoff has the perfect set up to win again as he is the only natural front-runner in a field otherwise full of hold up horses.
He has tried to make all in four of his five starts this winter (succeeding twice), the only exception being when he tried to anticipate the start here two runs back, losing all chance coming out of the stalls. That seems to have been a one-off and he produced as good an effort as any last time in a conditions race here, only giving best late on to two horses rated more than a stone better off level weights.
He is able to race off the same mark of 87 today as the handicapper has not had a chance to reassess him and is likely to be unpestered for the lead with all four rivals renowned as needing to be dropped in. In theory this makes the selections task much easier as under-rated pilot Ali Rawlinson can dictate whatever pace he wants to go.
1.5pts win – Michele Strogoff – 7.15 Wolverhampton – 15/8 general
