Anteros can utilise low chase mark

Steve Hughes has a selection for the Veterans Chase at Plumpton

Good racing on Wednesday, not least at Plumpton where there is a very interesting looking chase for veterans.

Plumpton 3.10: Anteros

If he can put in a clear round, Anteros is surely handicapped to win this from a lowly rating of 110 and I think it is worth chancing that jockey Paddy Brennan can safely steer him round Plumpton.

The 11yo was last seen running in a class 2 handicap at Chepstow last month, where he was a respectable fifth in that hurdle. However his hurdles mark was 126, a full stone and more higher than his chase rating. Given he has been running respectably over hurdles against much tougher opposition then it will feel to him he is almost running loose this afternoon.

Of course there is a reason for his lower mark over the bigger obstacles, and it has to be said he has never been the surest of jumpers. That said his chasing form reads 4323P32, so he has not fallen and has been very consistent and his second at Bangor last season on similar ground gives him every chance here.

Recommended bet:

0.75pts each-way – Anteros – 3.10 Plumpton – 5/1 general
