Go for Grundy at Punchestown

Ray Flanagan with Punchestown selections

thought for the day: “I am a lonely enough aul sod at the end of the day

Do you ever get one of those days where you do not really know what to do with yourself. In my case I will do what I do best and have a punt on a couple of nags.

Punchestown 3.20- Lady Writer

Has produce three solid efforts of late in novice company at Limerick and twice subsequently in handicap company at Punchestown and Navan. Has looked a little awkward at times in those races and interesting to see connections reach for cheek-pieces this afternoon. It might prove a winning formula.

Punchestown 4.20- Solomn Grundy

Useful hurdler for Neil Mulholland in the UK notwithstanding having some issues with his wind which resulted previously in him not finishing out his races. Has been seeing out his races better since undergoing a wind-op and while 3m 4 F is a step into unknown territory he has the breeding to suggest he can cope.

Was well weighted in the Paddy Power over Christmas so it is a little disappointing that he struggled there, but despite the light weight, perhaps his young jockey did not have the horse best positioned throughout.

The re-engagement of Tom Scudamore may prove a positive today and he could easily have a bit in hand in a race where many come into the race out of form.
