Steve Hughes has a best bet for Thursday
A welcome busy day of racing after the relative lack of recent activity. Sadly Kelso’s card has been decimated by the restrictions due to the recent equine flu outbreak, so I have a best bet instead from Fontwell.
Fontwell 3.10: Triple Chief
Despite a disappointing season to date, Triple Chief looks overpriced having dropped to a potentially winning mark for the father-daughter team of Jimmy and Bryony Frost.
The 8yo has paid for bolting up by 10l over this 2m2f trip at Taunton, almost exactly a year ago. Put up 9lbs to 115 for that success, he has been in the drip of the handicapper since. However he ran a promising race at Exeter on New Years Day, holding every chance two our before fading into third. That stiff track might have sapped the stamina from this keen racer and today’s sharper track will be ideal.
He was a well beaten last here most recently, but I am happy to forgive him that run – his first without headgear in almost four years. The usual cheekpieces are immediately reapplied today and the handicapper has dropped him a further 6lbs since that excellent Exeter effort. Therefore he is 2lbs lower than for his last win and should be in peak condition for today.
1pt win – Triple Chief – 3.10 Fontwell – 9/1 William Hill, Paddy Power
