Ray Flanagan with Saturday selections
thought for the day: I wonder what will happen at Augusta later today. Could Ricky thrive now that he is away from Rory.
Smart form as a juvenile including easy success over Malaya in the Adonis at Kempton. Bit too find with some of these but comes here a fresh horse and that can mean a lot at this time of year.
Ayr 3.35- Crosshue Boy/Doing Fine
Crosshue Boy appears to have been laid out for this by a small Irish stable. Was very good at Ayr last season and as a son of Brian Boru no reason to suspect stamina problems. Can go well under a man with a good name, Sean Flanagan, in the saddle.
Doing Fine is a guaranteed stayer and might improve on his fourth last season. I have long had him earmarked for a decent staying prize with a few good efforts particularly around Cheltenham to his name. Recent wind operation might just eek out that little bit extra.
Ran much better than his final finish suggested in the Martin Pipe at Cheltenham. Some decent snippets of form previously in Ireland. Might be an awkward ride but has the services of possibly the greatest of them all Mr Russell in the saddle this afternoon.
Newbury-3.15- Fire Brigade
A difficult heat but there are a worse outsiders than Fire Brigade who has dropped a couple of pounds in the ratings and who should appreciate the cut in the ground.
Newbury 5.35-Lunar Jet
A pair of unexposed improvers head the market and one of them will probably win.Nonetheless, I will take a chance on a repeat success for Lunar Jet. He beat a good field last season and appears best caught fresh.
