Ray Flanagan with Saturday selections
thoughts for the day: Brooks Koepka is now recognised as the world’s best golfer but I can always say I spotted him first and backed him at 70-1 when he won his first major two years ago at Erin Hills. Similar to Naomi Osaka in tennis we will never see double figure odds pre tourney again.
“How many majors will Brooks win ”
A few picks for today.
Ascot 3.40-Lord Glitters
Not a vintage crop of top milers and indeed the selection Lord Glitters is more of a glorified handicapper than a top miler. Nonetheless his top race credentials from 2018 are pretty good and his Meydan third to Almond Eye is just about as good of form as what is on offer.
Ascot 5.25- Robin Of Navan
Highly tried in the past and some snippets of form are well ahead of most of his rivals today. Not a bad effort in listed company recently and could be the type who will benefit from switching to handicap company conceding weight to lesser rated rivals. Might produce his best effort for a while here.
Golf- Justin Rose- W/O Brooks Koepka- Uspga Golf
Justin Rose appears to be finding his stride at the right time and I fancy him to play a strong Saturday and Sunday this week to emerge as the closest challenger to the brilliant Brooks. Rose is rediscovering his best tee to green performance and his thirst for the battle is always a good thing to have on side.
Producing something unique is the most important attribute in finding a Eurovision winner nowadays and Australia fits the bill this year. Their song is ok just rather than great, but what they have is a wonderful stage performance the likes of which has not been seen at Eurovision previously. This combined with a late draw should see them go very close.
