Unexposed Kripke can win again

Steve Hughes has two picks for Sunday

Plenty of racing on offer on Sunday and I have one flat race selection at Ripon this afternoon, plus one over jumps at Market Rasen, for their respective feature races. We had a strong Saturday with victory for headline selection Mustashry (advised 11/1) plus an each-way place for Prestbury Park (16/1).

Market Rasen 4.00: The Sweeney

Consistent The Sweeney generally plies his trade around sharp right-handed tracks these days and that is certainly the case today with the 7yo at Market Rasen.

He produced his best effort last season around this course and distance when second to Earlofthecotswolds last month. Since then he has run up to usual standard when third at Wincanton.

He is not the easiest to win with, but two wind operations over the past year have helped and whilst I would not normally recommend a horse this short in the betting each-way, he is that type of horse sure to give you a run for your money, whilst often finding one too stout in the finish.

Ripon 4.20: Kripke

Without doubt the most unexposed horse in this line up of experienced handicappers and therefore with the most potential to improve is Kripke.

Having won an All Weather maiden at Southwell last spring, Kripke broke his turf duck when scoring at Pontefract last time out. He needed every yard of the mile trip on that stiff track that day, so the additional furlong here looks sure to help.

He was taken out of a race at Hamilton on Friday due to fast ground, but there is always a good carpet of grass at Ripon to take the sting out of conditions. Things should set up well given he is drawn on the inside and should have plenty of pace to aim at with Gurkha Friend and Just Hiss in the line up.

Recommended bets:

1pt each-way – The Sweeney – 4.00 Market Rasen – 4/1 general

1pt win – Kripke – 4.20 Ripon – 6/1 Paddy Power
