Steve Hughes has a best bet for Sunday
Nothing of the quality of Royal Ascot today, but as usual Pontefract puts on a decent card and I have an each-way bet for race three. We had a reasonable final day at Ascot with a win for Defoe (advised 3/1) and each-way places for Urban Icon (advised 9/1) and Summerghand (advised 18/1).
Pontefract 3.25: Hats off To Larry
This race revolves around the unexposed Michael Stoute raider Derevo with Ryan Moore on board. However as the colt has raced only on sand/soft turf I think he is worth opposing in favour of a more experienced but in-form rival.
Hats Off To Larry has been progressing well for a while, and is versatile regarding track. He has two wins to his name around sharp Windsor plus one at Chester, but also won at the stiff Beverley track. Last time out he ran on strongly up the Carlisle hill for second on softer ground, so this Pontefract circuit should hold no terrors either.
He can be a keen racer, but with Ayutthaya, Addis Ababa and Victory Chime all frequent pacesetters there should be a decent gallop to follow in spite of the small field. That must give the 5yo a decent platform to set him for a burst up the finishing hill.
0.75pts each-way – Hats off to Larry – 3.25 Pontefract – 7/1 general
