Steve Hughes looks ahead to the best of Sunday’s jumps action.
Perth and Stratford provide the racing entertainment on Sunday on a day packed full of top sport. I have selections from two class 3 handicaps. Copper Knight was a winner on Saturday (advised 9/4).
Stratford 3.35: Adjutant
A horse good enough to win a competitive early season maiden on the flat at Newbury last year, Adjutant has taken well to hurdling and can win on his first attempt in handicap company.
He lost his way completely on the flat after winning his first two starts of 2018, but a change of venue in joining Olly Murphy, plus a change of code seems to have brought about a resurgence in form. All three of his starts have been at this track.
He did not show much first up in March, but he has looked both classy and pacy in two wins since this summer. He bounces off this fast ground and his jumping has improved with each appearance. This track will play to his strengths and this looks a suitable grade to be entering the handicap sphere.
Perth 3.50: Callthebarman
This is a tough assignment for a horse on only his third start over fences. However Callthebarman could be unexposed and hails from a yard in Gavin Cromwell that is in tip-top form at present.
Callthebarman jumped averagely on chasing debut at Sligo last autumn, but built on that significantly to hack up at Ayr next time, beating a progressive type in Trongate. Interestingly in four races since he has been returned to hurdling where he has not exactly shone.
However he may simply be better over fences and he also enjoys his trips to Britain as he won at Huntingdon over hurdles on his only other appearance. He has winning form on softer ground, so today’s good-to-soft conditions won’t be an issue.
1pt win – Adjutant – 3.35 Stratford – 3/1 Bet365, BetVictor
1pt win – Callthebarman – 3.50 Perth – 5/1 general
