Ray Flanagan with Saturday Racing selection along with a couple of bets on the Gaa Football
thoughts for the day: I have a few acquaintances but very few friends
Despite saying I would have no bet again until York, I find myself punting again today. I just love my betting and my gambling.
Shergar Cup Day at Ascot where the lovely Hayley Turner (pictured) may be in for a good afternoon.
Ascot 2.15- Melting Dew
I will be jumping for joy if Hayley wins on all five of her mounts (for my yankee) but the one I will put up for backing is Melting Dew. Michael Stoute’s charge had some right good form last season beating Alfarris at Sandown and finishing second to Sir Cheuvulin at Goodwood. Needs to step up on form this season but shaped ok last time at Haydock and revival entirely possible with cheek-pieces refitted.
Newmarket 4.55- Eynhallow
Very good handicapper in the Meydan desert back in the early months of 2018. Comes here off a long absence but has ran well fresh before and fitness usually not a concern coming from these quarters. Could start making up for lost time.
Mayo (All Ireland Semi Final)
Dublin’s drive for five may well come unstuck in the predicted howling gails and lashing rain at Croke Park today. Through their period of dominance the only team who have given the SkyBlues any bother have been the gallant Mayo men. The westerners should have beaten them in the 2017 final and in recent championship clashes there has only been a point or two between them.
Bookies prices are based on the notion that the red and green are on the decline, yet they come into this game on the back of two good wins, with their victory over Donegal last week suggesting they are hitting form at the right time.
Dublin have had it too easy all year thus far and may just be surprised by the intensity Mayo will bring today. 5-1 is too big.
Lee Keegan looks a big price to score a goal. The versatile number 5 has netted on big occasions previously including in the 2017 final and is always dangerous when he breaks up the field.
Plenty of brute strength will be required in the conditions today and it could well be the day where Aidan O Shea will dominate the middle and produce his finest hour in a Mayo jersey. We will wait and see.
