Steve Hughes has a pick for Windsor’s usual Monday evening fixture
Even though we are now into September, the Monday evening fixtures keep coming at Windsor. The best looking race on the card is a 5f sprint for which I have a selection.
Windsor 6.00: Maid of Spirit
Trainer Clive Cox endured a very lean time during the first five months of 2019 (15-174), but it has better all round since (36-219) in the past three months and the form of Maid of Spirit reflects that recent improvement.
She is all pace and as such her best form has come at the minimum trip after a spell over 6f. She was an impressive winner on debut here last summer and this will be her first appearance since on a track that tends to favour early speed.
She was well beaten in three runs in the spring when the stable was out of sorts, but a third over 6f at Doncaster last month hinted at better to come. Back to the minimum trip she made most to win at Salisbury last time on soft going. She has solid form on fast ground too though and has enough natural pace to cope with the sharper track and faster going here.
1pt win – Maid of Spirit – 6.00 Windsor – 4/1 general
