Ray Flanagan with Leopardstown selections
Surprisingly for a Saturday, much the best racing today is held on the domestic front.
Leopardstown 2.30- Machine Learner and Barbados
Always one of the races of the season, the Petingo Handicap at Leopardstown.
Machine Learner ran a stormer in this contest two years ago when second to Laws of Spin and may be ready to go one place better today following two good back to back efforts at Sandown. A smooth traveller he needs other horses to set a race up for him but this type of big field handicap is right up his street and could fall into place for him this afternoon.
Barbados displayed useful maiden form earlier in the season and loads to like about his gallant second in the Queens Vase at Ascot. Opening mark of 103 no gimme but looks the class horse here and could easily go well in first time cheek-pieces.
87-years young Kevin Prendergast (pictured) may have let his heart rule his head with this horse campaigning him as a Derby candidate rather than going the ten-furlong route. Still not to late to make up for lost opportunities however and I believe we will all see how good Madhmoon really is today.
Leopardstown 6.00- Silverkode
Placed off higher marks in previous two renewals of this. No great encouragement yet this year but dropping down the weights and much lower than marks he was placed off previously. Would like to see better form going into the race but that can be John Joes style of preparation and he could have this fella ready to strike here.
