Steve Hughes has a selection for both of today’s British meetings
The Scottish racing scene moves onto Hamilton where the action is nothing like the quality of Ayr over the previous three days. I have a selection for the feature contest plus one from over the jumps at Plumpton.
Plumpton 2.45: Cubswin
The diminutive mare Cubswin must give weight away all round, but she is in the form at the moment to see off a field that is essentially a grade or two below her natural level.
She won her last start over hurdles by making most of the running to win at Newton Abbot over 2m2f, despite getting hassled by a rival for much of the contest. Since then she has proved her wellbeing by placing third in a decent flat race at Newmarket.
A real tough nut to pass, she won the valuable 2m grass roots series final at Haydock back in the spring. Any significant rain would be an issue, but given this smallish field, there must be a real chance she can dominate from the front once more.
Hamilton 4.30: Kermouster
In-form Kermouster’s winning run came to an end at Musselburgh last time, but there were excuses and she can bounce back to form at Hamilton this afternoon.
Two of her three wins came with cut in the ground, including a win on heavy at Leicester. However her run at Musselburgh came on fast going and her chance was compromised by a slow break too. As a result she could never get back into contention around that sharp track.
This more undulating track should play more to her strengths given she won twice at Leicester and once at Carlisle, both I consider stiff tests. Heavy rain this morning should suit the daughter of Garswood, a heavy ground winner of a Group 1.
1pt win – Cubswin – 2.45 Plumpton – 11/4 general
1pt win – Kermouster – 4.30 Hamilton – 5/1 Bet365
