Steve Hughes has a pick for Sunday’s feature race
With British racing wiped out by the weather, Limerick comes to the rescue with arguably its premier race of the season, the Munster National. It is difficult to look past the favourite for the big race. Headline selection Ballyoptic was a winner on Saturday (9/2), and there were placed efforts from each-way bets Great Trango (SP 25/1) and Champagne Court (7/1).
Limerick 4.35: Internal Transfer
Local trainer Eric McNamara always targets this race as a key contest for his staying chasers and he runs three interesting contenders here. However the claims of Internal Transfer look the most persuasive.
Three times he has raced at Limerick and he has come home in front on each occasion, winning by a total of 36l in the process. Two of those wins have been gained in testing conditions and the going is certainly going to be plenty heavy enough once more this afternoon.
He warmed up for this with a fine fourth in the Kerry National last month, but as a horse who can jump a little right-handed, this circuit looks sure to suit far more. It would also be fair to say he has probably been trained more with this race in mind than that contest at Listowel. The booking of Robbie Power looks significant too.
